MISSION & VISION
Our Vision is to unite the residents of Mattapan to create sustainable livelihoods, gain access to secure affordable housing, primary education, and healthcare.
Our Mission To establish a vibrant and resilient community in the neighborhoods of Boston Mattapan by developing and preserving homeownership and rental housing options that cater to all socioeconomic levels. Creating economic development opportunities for both individuals and businesses. Supporting the creation and empowerment of small businesses within the community. Providing education, training, and mentorship programs that promote economic sustainability.

OUR HISTORY
Mattapan Community Development Corporation was first founded in April of 1979 under the leadership of Waver Garret as President, Jesse Vailes as Secretary and Lawrence Dunn asTreasurer. Circumstances of which we were uncertain, the organization was dissolve in 1986, however, as result of Mattapan community needs, the organization was reformed in 1996 in order to address some of the housing and other programmatic concerns of the Mattapan residents.
The organization was recuperated by the late Senator Bill Owens After Steven Busky who quietly ran the organization. The late Senator Bill accompanied with Chinwe Igwegbe-Lane, Annette Dean and Nonyemlum Igwegbe. Late Senator Bill Owens was the President, Chinwe Igwegbe-Lane as the vice president and Annette secretary.Mattapan CDC was responsible for the creation of numerous affordable housing units on Elizabeth Street, Astoria Street, Verrill Street, River St. and Wood Avenue in Hyde Park which isa property still held by Mattapan Community development Corporation in keeping with its mission of providing quality affordable housing in the community. Mattapan CDC supports job training/workforce development while fostering.
The organization is currently led by Richard Phipps, after the tragic passing of the late Senator Bill Owens on January 22, 2022. Richard Phipps as president a US Air force veteran and longtime resident of the Mattapan-Hyde Park area, Chinwe Igwegbe as the Vice President, AmeliaEdwards as Treasurer and Annette Dean as The Secretary. Under their leaders, Mattapan CDC continues to play a vital role in keeping with its missions and goals serving the Mattapan Community.

We actively engage residents within our housing portfolio and the surrounding neighborhood to identify community priorities and develop potential leaders. Through our initiatives and actions aimed at promoting the common good, we aim to empower residents to effectively advocate for community needs with elected officials and policymakers, while also holding us accountable to our mission, vision, and values.
We strive to promote the well-being of our community by fostering healthy and sustainable built environments. Our goal is to improve access to healthy and affordable food, reduce the incidence of toxic stress among families and individuals, and enhance community cohesion through strategic programs and activities.

The stability of individuals, families, and communities is founded upon secure and affordable neighborhoods. As per Mattapan CDC, housing is a basic right, not a privilege, and every individual is entitled to a decent, safe, healthy, and stable dwelling. Additionally, Mattapan CDC considers those without access to permanent, appropriate housing as homeless.
Incorporating feedback from individual citizens and stakeholder groups is essential to providing a comprehensive response to community needs and concerns. Mattapan CDC recognizes the potency of our collective voice, vision, and abilities, and we rely on a collaborative approach to tackle our most pressing issues.
